Chiyoda TMC #383rd meeting report on November 17, 2022
By Masa Fujino

This is a two-week consecutive meeting with two guests from Kagurazaka TMC, joining online.
TMOE is AM; he mentioned many changes in the meeting program, such as roles and order of the program.

He suggested tonight’s word as “Thank you” in English and “感謝” in Japanese.
Next, each helper explained the contents of his/her work during the meeting, timer, ballot counter, ah-counter, and grammarian, as well as meeting reporter.

The first meeting program was “What’s new”, TMOE AM recommended that all of the attendees, including guests, speak any topic for 30 seconds in English.

The following program was “Prepared speech”; three speakers exhibited their speech after proper preparation and practice; this is the core program of Toastmasters meeting.

The first speaker was KS; she provided a Japanese speech under the title of “潮時”.
She made a speech about the change in her working environment and then felt demotivated. Still, finally, she spoke about her objectives with a bright smile: a very poetic expression and an inspiring speech.

The second speaker was TM; her Japanese speech title was “緊急事態発生時における計画準備.”
She started with her shouting monologue at the airport in Paris and exhibited meaningful learning from an emergency. They are three steps, 1) situation analysis, 2) Make a to-do list 3) Ask for help for someone else, for example, a previous boyfriend!

The third speaker was MM; he spoke in English under “My hometown Miki and Miki buttle.” His speech was so passionate; he talked about his hometown Miki city in Hyogo prefecture gave us some historical anecdotes from the old era.

After ten minutes break, MN led the Table Topics session; she attended from Osaka online.
She prepared five common questions concerning the recent popular Osaka dialect word “知らんけど”, and five appointed speakers talked promptly.
1. 口癖 by T: Nothing but his speech title or contents is always related to animation.
2. 先見の明 by K: He spoke about アダージョof music; if he were president of music producing firm, he would be a millionaire!
3. 責任を回避する術 by Guest S: いやどうも in the Ibaraki dialect is a valuable word for declining softly and agreeing with a kind attitude.
4. Impromptu speech using “知らんけど” By T: In 2018, he had invited three members, who are attending tonight, to Chiyoda TMC.
5. 知らんがな by F: His experience about so many inquiries from Non-Japanese.

General evaluator is SS; she brought an old manual describing the essence of General evaluation, which was good.
Evaluator 1 was Guest MM; she exhibited analytical, poetic, and kind words and suggestions.
Evaluator 2 was FA; he evaluated Evaluator 1 MM just after her 3 minutes evaluation speech. All the attendees were surprised by his listening and encouraging skills.
Evaluator 3 was KH; he always provided an efficient and transparent evaluation.
Evaluator 4 was SY; he evaluated with unique opening and powerful words in English.

Then General evaluator SS gave overall and comprehensive comments on tonight’s meeting, including preparation; she is a new member but looked very confident.
