#397th Meeting Report

Chiyoda Toastmasters Club #397th Meeting Report

1st of June, 2023

Our Club President K declared the opening remark at just 7 pm; the Chiyoda Toastmasters Club #397th Meeting started on time.

Today we have nine members and one guest on site, and two members online.

ToastMaster Of the Evening(TMOE), facilitator, and overall timekeeper of today’s meeting is O; he is joining online from New York. He touched on his recent life in the US; last weekend, one of our club members, T, visited and had lunch with O in New York; what fantastic news!

O introduced meeting helpers individually: Timer, Ballot counter, Ah Counter, Grammarian, and the Meeting reporter. I worked as Ah counter as well, so during my role instruction speech, I introduced one attractive YouTube, a very famous person’s video from thirteen years ago; she said “ya know” filler words so many times that I warned everyone not to use filler words during speech.

The next session was “What’s new,” each club member, including guests, provided a short speech in English; it was an excellent opportunity to express their feeling in a foreign language regardless of their English speaking level.

Today we had three prepared speakers.

The first speaker is S; he made a speech in English titled “Omotenashi.” His interpretation of the word “Omotenashi” as “Unconditional hospitality” was unique and exciting. Recently, another club member’s speech inspired him, and he took some action; S emphasized the definition of good speech from his experience.

The second speaker is M; he provides a speech in Japanese under the title of “Wabi-Sabi-Moe,” which content correlates with S’s speech. He talked about his recent trip to Europe, the cross-cultural experience between Japan and Europe, and the deep meaning of each word, Wabi, Sabi, and Moe, which has deep significance in Japanese culture.

Since the third speaker, H had yet to arrive at the venue due to overtime work, TMOE O changed the meeting program flexibly, and we moved to the next program, the Table Topics session.

Table Topics Master T mentioned that he did not make sufficient preparation, but his talk and session procedure were very smooth and professional because he recently made a business trip to India, where everything was quick and fast.

Five appointed speakers talked promptly.

  1. A for “What did you eat today?”
  2. Guest K for “Where will you go for relaxing?”
  3. O for “Your favorite book.”
  4. F for “Your favorite type of girl.”
  5. K for “Real story which is never a fake.”

Everyone summarized their speech within the allocated time; it was good.

Then the third speaker, H, arrived and served a fascinating speech titled “Oshigoto,” which means not work but the fun activity of specific artists/celebrities.

Her passion for this topic was tremendous, and we laughed many times.

From now on, General Evaluator A took meeting facilitation.

The first evaluator, K, provided very analytical feedback to the first speaker S.

The second evaluator, F, gave thought-provoking advice to the second speaker, M.

The third evaluator O did a fun and passionate evaluation of the third speaker, H.

Then A analyzed and summarized the overall meeting with a very calm and gentle speaking style.

Award presentation:

The Best Table Topics Speaker: K

The Best Evaluator: O

The Best Speaker: M

Today’s guest K declared that she decided to join our club after her second attendance at our meeting today and some other club visits as a comparison; we are happy to hear that!

Why don’t you come and see our passionate but enjoyable meeting? We are looking forward to meeting you anytime.
