第 405回例会 レポート

今回のレポート担当はSです。
T会長挨拶の後、今夜の例会のTMOEのOさん登場です。今夜の言葉は“Heartful”。心温まる英語です。
今夜はゲストの方もいませんし、会員同士ゆるく始まります。
今夜の役割紹介の後は、一人30秒で英語プレゼンを行う“What’s new?” を行いました。
次に準備スピーチに移ります。
先頭はOさん。タイトルは「全仏オープン失格騒動」。ニューヨークに在勤のOさん。テニスの全米オープンを観に行ったそうです。その時に注目したのが加藤未唯選手。しっかり写真も撮っていらっしゃいました。
全仏オープンの失格騒動は、僕も何となくニュースのヘッドラインは知っていましたが、詳しくは知りませんでした。Oさんはこの件を詳しく取り上げられ、色々と考えさせられるスピーチでした。要旨は、“頑張って欲しい”という加藤選手への応援でした。
日本人らしい対応といえばその通りですが、色んな事が起こるのですね・・・これぞ国際社会。思い立ってと全米オープンを観に行けるOさんの環境が羨ましい！
しかし、シングルスとダブルスであれ程賞金金額が違うとは・・・・。
次はF１さん。タイトルは「誰かに仕事をお願いする場合に想定外を軽減する方法。」
タイトルだけ聞いても魅力的ですよね。
実業家のF１さん。自身の実体験に基づいたスピーチです。沢山の失敗例が出てきて、それだけでも、とっても深みがあって面白い。とても6～7分の準備スピーチで語りつくせるような内容ではありません。意識的に騙そうとする人と、意識的ではない人に分けて説明して頂きました。「相手に頼りたい心」がスキを生む事になるそうです。そうですよね。誰でも他人に頼りたくなるものです。一人で何でもやるなんて無理ですし。それがスキを生むそうです。とっても勉強になりました。
3番目はF2さん。タイトルは、“My looking back for ten years.” レベル5の終了スピーチです。終了スピーチなので、通常の準備スピーチよりも長い、10～12分のスピーチです。凄い！Toast MastersのF2さんの10年間の歩みです。個人的な話あり、エピソードあり、パフォーマンスあり、哲学あり。次の目標を立てないというのは1日1日を大事にして、その瞬間を精一杯生きるF2さんらしいと思いました。
次はテーブルトピックスです。
体調不良のため参加できなくなったK１さん。それでもトピックスは“旅”のテーマでしっかり考えてくれてTMOEのOさんに伝えていただきました。
OさんもK1さんのトピックスを上手にさばきました。
「旅先で出会ったよだれが出そうな食べ物。」「旅先で出会った苦手な食べ物。」「旅先での心温まる交流の思い出。」「旅先でのムカつくエピソード。」回答者も、時間内に自分の考えを述べました。
「苦手な食べ物」で出てきた、スウェーデンの「シュールストレミング」初めて知りました。凄い食べ物なんですね。世界は広い！
休憩の後、論評です。Mさんの司会のもと、準備スピーチに対する論評です。
Oさんの論評をNさん、F1さんに対する論評を私、F2さんに対する論評をTさんが行いました。
えーと文法係は最近スリムなHさんです。皆さんの“えーっと”をカウントしてくださいました。いくら経験を積んでも、意識しないと“えーっと”なかなかなくなりません。私もかなり言っていたようで、反省しきりです。これがToast Masters の良さです。自分では気づかない事を気づかせてくれます。
今夜の投票結果は、準備スピーチF2さん、テーブルトピックK２さん、論評Tさんでした。
ゆるーくやっている割には、とっても盛りだくさんで、中身の濃い405回となりました。
こんな中身の濃い会は中々無いぞ！と宣伝してレポートを締めたいと思います。。

Reporter, tonight, is S.
After Chairman T’s speech, Mr. O, Toast Master Of this Evening (TMOE) , made a speech. The word for tonight is “Heartful”. What a heartwarming word in English!
There will be no guests tonight, so the meeting will begin casually among the members.
After tonight’s role introduction, we held “What’s new?”, where each person gave a 30-second English presentation.
Next, move on to “prepared speech” session.
Mr. O is in the first. The title is “French Open Disqualification Riot.” Mr. O works in New York. He went to the US Open tennis tournament. At that time, the player he noticed was Miyu Kato.
I was somewhat aware of the news headlines about the French Open disqualification scandal, but I didn’t know the details. Mr. O described this issue in detail and gave a speech that made me think about many things. The gist of the speech was to support Kato and say, I want her to do her best.”
We could say that it’s a typical Japanese response, but a lot of things included. We are living in an international society. I’m jealous of Mr. O’s environment where he can go and see the US Open in person on a whim!
Furthermore, it is hard to believe that the prize money for singles and doubles is so different!
Next prepared speech is F1. The title is “How to reduce surprises when asking someone to do a job.”
Just hearing the title alone is appealing.
As a businessman F1, this is a speech based on his experience. There are many examples of failures, and these are very profound and interesting. This speech is too short to be covered in a 6-7 minute, due to full amoungt of contents. He explains this, saying a difference between those who consciously try to deceive and those who do not consciously try to deceive. According to him, “the desire to rely on the other person” creates a room to be decieved by the other person. It is quite natural. Everyone wants to rely on others. It’s impossible to do everything alone. But this mindset sometimes creates a room to be decieved by others. His speech means a lot.
The third speaker is F2. The title is “My looking back for ten years.” This is the final speech for Level 5. Since it is a closing speech for pathway, it takes a 10-12 minute, which is longer than a normal prepared speech. Well done! F2 speaks Toast Masters’ 10-year journey. There are personal stories, anecdotes, performances, and philosophy. It’s typical of F2 that they don’t set a next goal, valuing each day at a time and living each moment to the fullest.
Next are table topics.
K1 was unable to participate due to sudden poor health conditon. Hence, Ms. O from TMOE carefully conveyed the topic of “travel. ” Ms. O handled Ms. K1’s topics very well.
“Foods you encountered while traveling that made me drool.” “Foods you encountered while traveling that you didn’t like.” “Memories of heartwarming interactions while traveling.” “A story that made you feel annoyed while traveling.” Everyone assigned expressed his/her thought within time limits.
This is the first time I’ve heard of Sweden’s “surströmming,” a stuffed food that I didn’t know. The world is still wide and full of the things unknown !
After the break, there will be a commentary session. This is a commentary on the prepared speech, moderated by Mr. M. Mr. N gave a review for Mr. O, I gave a review for Mr. F1, and Mr. T gave a review for Mr. F2.
Well, the grammar clerk is Mr. H, who has recently become slim. We counted everyone’s “um”s. No matter how much experience you have, if you don’t become conscious of it, you won’t be able to get rid of that annoying words. I seem to have said this quite a lot, and I’m really reflecting on it. This is the beauty of Toast Masters. It makes you realize things that you don’t realize on your own.
Tonight’s voting results were F2 for best prepared speech, K2 for best table topic speaker, and T for best commentator .
Although it was done slowly, there was a lot of content, and the 405th episode was very rich.
You won’t find many meetings with this kind of content! I would like to conclude my report by promoting Chiyoda Toast Masters.
